It's Bloomsday today. All the Joyceans will be pedaling around Dublin today, eating liver, wearing plus-fours, and buying lemon soap. It's like a second Gay Pride for chicken-hawks.
I know that most of you, unlike Marylin Monroe, have never read Ulysses, but if you want you can fake it a bit, and listen to Joyce reading Finnegan's Wake instead. But what bothers me about this recording is his accent. Since when was Joyce a culchie?! His father was from Cork, but he was born in Rathgar, and spent most of his childhood in Bray, so where did the culchie accent come from? Maybe the Bray accent was more country then? Maybe it still is and I know nothing! Anyone from Bray here?
