Andrew Chase paints, takes photographs and makes furniture, but it's these mechanical animal sculptures that caught my eye. They remind me of the mechanical horse in one of my favourite movies as a kid, The Thief Of Bagdad.

This evening, the Pigeon House chimney stacks at Poolbeg are being decommissioned. The generators that use the stacks will be powered down sometime after "peak" today and steam will no longer be seen issuing from the stacks. The future of the stacks is now uncertain, and there is a possibility that they will be demolished, though I would fervently hope - and expect - that Dubliners wouldn't allow that to happen. They are one of the few visual symbols of the city, and I think most Dubliner's regard them with great fondness. They are a part of our industrial heritage, and part of the city's imagination. They are Dublin.

Sinead appeared on US TV's Larry King Live yesterday in a discussion about the abuse scandals. The other contributors were an abuse victim, a couple of priests, and a guy called Bill Donohue from the Catholic League. Donohue is the worst kind of arch conservative Catholic nut-job. Recently he has been trying to claim that the Church scandals are not the result of pedophiles, but... yes, you guessed it, gays. The day before yesterday he took out a full page ad in the New York Times (which has been leading the investigative reporting of the American abuse scandals) to defend the Pope and blame gays in the church.
The ad and the TV discussion are below. In the third clip Donohue says:
"It's not pedophilia. Most of the victims are post- pubescent. You have to get your facts straight. I'm sorry. If I'm the only one who is dealing with facts tonight, that's it. The vast majority of the victims are post-pubescent. That's not pedophelia, buddy. That's homosexuality...Post-pubescent means beyond puberty. In other words, you're adolescent. That's what homosexuals do, and of the molesters have been homosexuals in the Catholic church."
(Gay note: Sinead is wearing the same dress that she was wearing on Anderson Cooper's show. I hope they were filmed on the same day, or that it's her new favourite dress!)

I came across this list of the "Top Ten Weird Pageants" and the Alternative Miss Ireland is at #7, lol! Though with some of the others being Miss Pregnant, Miss Landmine Survivor, Miss Prisoner and Miss Muslim Moral, the competition was tough!

Seeing as they successfully smashed protons together with the Large Hadron Collider yesterday, and didn't suck us all into a black hole either, I think the Large Hadron Collider rap needs another outing. P to the R to the O to the TON!
