    The unbearable lightness of being

When I was 17 years old I was already a ditzy queen and turned up on the wrong day to register at art college. And so instead of registering with a big group of other excited and nervous teenagers about to start college together, I found myself surrounded by all the older students who were returning to college for another year, and who were all greeting each other loudly after the summer holidays and knew exactly where they were and what they were doing. I felt awkward and shy. And when I found the right queue and sat down, I found myself beside an impossibly handsome punk with a bleached-blonde mohawk and wearing a pair of pyjamas with a Playboy centre-fold safety-pinned to the back. He was so exotic and handsome I could barely breath, and as far as I was concerned he was living proof that I'd made the right decision to go to art college.

It turned out that the punk's name was Tony and he was a year ahead of me studying film. He was a wild, entertaining guy, and over the years I slowly got to know him. Though it wasn't untill long after college that I got to know him better. He was a "head around town" that I'd often bump in to, and sometimes our paths would cross at film-y type things. He lost his punk styling and wild ways over the years but he never lost his handsomeness. About ten years ago he took up running, and as I was running marathons at the time, we would often chat about our mutual love of a long run. And in recent years Penny and I would often meet him when we were on our regular walks by Grand Canal Dock where he was living. He was one of those people who always seemed to be part of the background of my life, and someone I have always had great affection for ever since his punkish beauty took my breath away when I was a shy and nervous teenager.

Tony passed away in his sleep earlier this week. No one knows why.

Regular readers will know I love tilt-shift films. Here's one Tony shot of Grand Canal Dock.

    Tilt-shift music festival

I don't know why I never tire of a good tilt-shift film. I guess it ties in with my love of models and miniatures. Which ties in with my love of small fellas. I love little fellas!

Anyfella, here's a nice tilt-shift film of the Coachella Valley Music Festival in California.

It's not embed-able so tilt-shift fans wll have to visit the site, but here's a quick screen grab.
