Well, at least it's his face now. Not sure who owned the various bits and pieces originally.

If you're not completely saturated, New York Mag has a long, comprehensive piece about Growing Up Gaga.
"The story of Gaga is a story of being young in New York City. Stefani Germanotta grew up in a duplex on the Upper West Side, on one of the eclectic blocks between Columbus and Amsterdam in the West Seventies that are a mix of prewar brownstones, tenements, and modern condos. Her father ran a company that installed Wi-Fi in hotels, and her mother worked for a time as a V.P. at Verizon."

Like A Virgin remains Madonn's biggest hit, and was part of the soundtrack to my youth. Even the album cover still resonates with me - it loomed large above my teenage bed.
The song was written in 1983 by successful songwriting team Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly - they've written may hits, including Cyndi Lauper's True Colors - but was turned down by a lot of people before an A&R man at Warner heard it and thought it's be perfect for Madonna, who was still a minor artist (before Lucky Star and Borderline).
You can read about how the song came about, and listen to Steinberg and Kelly original demo recording - with Kelly's falsetto vocal - HERE. The demo is cute and is actually remarkably close to Madonna's finished version.
(thanks Brian)

I posted previously about Madonna's next directorial project, a feature film about the affair between King Edward VII and American divorcee (and rumoured hermaphrodite!) Wallis Simpson. and now it's being reported that Ewan McGreggor has signed up to play the abdicating king. Madge is writing the script with Alec Keshishian, who directed In Bed With Madonna.
It's a really fascinating story and I'm surprised there hasn't been a major movie about it before - though there have been countless documentaries, a West End musical, and at least four TV movies and mini series. Wallis has already been played by Faye Dunaway (great casting!), Jane Seymour (terrible casting!) and Joley Richardson, among others. Madonna's Wallis will apparently be played by Vera Farmiga, currently starring opposite George Clooney in Up In The Air.

Big Bird is six years old today. (Yes, six. He's always six, even though he's been on Sesame Street for 41 years).
You can read a lot of fascinating info about him HERE, including how he's operated by the puppeteer, and how he's changed over the years.
And even though I've posted this before, I'm posting it again because it's so lovely and moving. Big Bird at Jim Henson's memorial service.

Judy, struggling to concentrate at times talks about her child star days, her dislike of her mother, raising her own children, and her gay audience. Interestingly she plays down her "homosexual" fan base a touch homophobucally - though this has to be read in it's 1967 context - and is dismissive of the female reporter who labelled her audience gay. According to Judy she was a big dyke - "she had a few problems herself... talk about homosexuals... she was.. well... she was a fella!"
