The Alternative Miss Ireland XVIII poster (with the mirrored silver effect which is lost in the reproduction below), designed by Niall Sweeney, was selected for exhibition at the 23rd Chaumont International Poster and Graphic Design Festival in France. Out of thousands of entries, they exhibit 100 works, and if you are a grtaphics nerd, you might be interested in the catalogue.

And speaking of graphic Mr Sweeney....
Niall also works with our girl Michelle from The Cake Cafe on Camden Street, and she is writing a cook book - in collaboration with Niall - and is looking to fund it through FundIt. If you know either The Cake Cafe, or Niall's work (or the plates, bags, tea towels, etc. that they've done together before) you'll know this is going to be gorgeous and probably good enough to eat!
Details HERE.

Yet another design publication is showing the love for Pantibar's posters - designed of course by Niall Sweeney at Pony Design. The other posters in the world must be ragin' at this stage. Oh well!
I was happy enough when a selection of the posters were added to the permanent collection of the Zurich Design Museum (Oooh! Get her!) but it seems like a month can't go by without another design magazine featuring them. Now if I can just find some way of taking the credit for Niall's work I pretty sure I could get laid out of this....

Some of you will know that I like and collect tea towels, and among my favourites is the tea towel from my friend Michelle's The Cake Cafe in Dublin, designed by my gay (and Pantibar graphics bitch) Niall Sweeney. The towels - and the lovely aprons - feature maps of Dublin with gorgeous icons representing things and places of interest. The tea towel features landmarks and sights (e.g. the Casino in Marino, the Pigeon House towers, Liberty Hall...) while the aprons feature Dublin placenames with food connections. And as you can see they are gorgeous and fun. I've bought loads as presents for all and sundry!
For a new tea towel however, Michelle and Niall are spreading their sights further afield than just Dublin and are looking for suggestions of interesting, fun, quirky or charming places across the whole island that might be included.
The blurb is below, and if you have a suggestion, you can e-mail Michelle at thecakecafe@gmail.com

A call for your suggestions...........
Now that Dublin is in our bag, on our Tea Towel and across our Aprons, The Cake Café is going to create a new map of Ireland. We want to fill this map with all of your favorite places in land.
Please send us locations that turn you on, fire your imaginations, or just fulfill your dreams; what ever you think should be included.
Please pass the request on to friends in far flung parts of the land so they too can send their suggestions; natural or unnatural, animal or man made, a view, a corner of a field, an island or even a journey or hidden places to enjoy a picnic.

I'm embarrassed to say that in all the excitement and chaos of Sunday night at the AMI, I completely forgot to mention my costumier from the stage, so I'm mentioning him now! My gorgeous frocks were all designed and made by the talented and lovely James David Seaver.

On Sunday Pantibar's design bitches Pony gave the closing presentation at OFFSET 2012, Dublin's annual international design conference which was happening in the Grand Canal Theatre. As expected by people who know them, Pony's presentation was very theatrical with their work being augmented by story and performance. There were glow-in-the-dark office workers with giant ball heads, a singing seagull, a stroy-telling grumpy chef, and giant inflatable baby, and a big drag queen.
I was that big drag queen.
Turns out the Creative Review likes big drag queens and Pony's potsers for Pantibar. Which isn't surprising really, considering the Zurich Design Museum aquired fourteen of the Pantibar posters for their permanent collection.

Love these portraits of ladies in cardboard outfits by by Swiss-Italian photographer Christian Tagliavini in which he creates portraits that mimic the look of historical paintings in various styles.
They remind me of Ennio Marchetto, "the living paper cartoon" whose show blew me away with it's clever inventiveness and riotous fun when I first saw it as a teenager. And he's still going strong today I believe.
More of these portraits at the link.

(thanks John)
