Dancer/choreographer Neil O'Brien's dance company has a new show in Temple Bar's Smock Alley this weekend. Neil is Dublin based these days but after training in Dublin he continued his training in New York before then working on Broadway and across the US. He has recently returned to Dublin after spending the last year touring the globe on those toes of his.
"What has 80 toes, 8 heads, 200 jumps, 67 high kicks for Jesus, woolly jumper costume changes, jazz hands and a big band finale? 'Starting Pointe' by Niel O'Brien Dance Company. A veritable pix'n'mix of inspiration from 'Once' to 'Oasis' this is Neil's first show in Ireland and is guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, suppress emotion and go out and buy some leg warmers afterwards."

Ponydance, the super-fun dance company who specialise in their own brand of surrealist comedy dance will be doing their thing with a special performance this Friday at F.A.G. ahead of their run in the Absolut Dublin Fringe Festival with their new show Straight To DVD. If you haven't seen them before you are missing out.

If you've spent any time in Dublin gay clubs over the past year or so you'll know identical twin Venezuelan dancers Emilio and Orlando - at least to see! They're hard to miss. Check them out in this sweet clip.

Jonte has been performing on the New York club scene for years, though these days he's often referred to as "Beyonce choreographer Jonte" - most famously he's responsible for the Single Ladies video. If you aren't aware of him, do your self a favour and put his name in to YouTube.
But it was this fabulous pic of him that reminded me of him today.

Because my gay Angelo and I don't know what to make of it. As Angelo said when he sent it to me, "I nearly didn't because it's so annoying but the guy's super-hot in an American way" and it is, and he is. Though I was distracted by the house. Obviously the house of a rich "grannay" - a "granny gay". My gay Alan would die for that house. All antique furniture and doilies.
Anyway, apparently the choreographer/director of this clip is taken seriously in the dance world (I Googled him) so maybe he's just having a laugh here, or maybe I'm just an uncouth philistine because all I see is a cute fella running around a grannay house to the Scissor Sisters.
Am I over-thinking this? I am, amn't I? You're right. I should just enjoy it on any level and stop worrying about whether it's a serious dance piece or not. I think it's the serious titles/credits that threw me. If it had just started off with the sound of the camera man giggling I never would have gotten in to this whole thing.
Oh for Dolly's sake! Just watch it and make up your own mind! Sheesh! Do I have to do everything?

There was a group doing something similar on one of those talent shows - Britain's Got Talent maybe? - last year but this is taking it to another level.

Insane "Femme Queen" vogueing battle during which I can hear my mother saying, "It's all fun and games till somebody looses an eye!".
Check out the queen dropping from the mezzanine at about the :50 mark.
(thanks Squirl)
