    Is there anything more depressing?

Than young people with ossified brains, unable to think for themselves, parroting the ignorance and hate and inane tripe that ignorant adults and religion have taught them? It's the very antithesis of what being young should be about. These 20 Young People Who Believe Marriage Should Be Between One Man And One Woman are American but you know full well you'd get identical responses from the idiots at Youth Defence, or at the Paris anti-mariiage equality rallies. Sad.

    Stand Up

The new Stand Up campaign against homophobic bullying from the wonderful BeLonG To was launched in Dublin last Friday by gay GAA star Dónal Óg Cusack and (calm down, deep breaths) English rugby star, straight-ally, gay-icon, anti-bullying campaigner, beefcake pin-up and all round good guy, Ben Cohen. You could hear the collective sigh of bear chasers across the city on Friday, and there were quite a few hearts a-flutter when he came in to Pantibar too.

If you haven't already watched the Stand Up video, watch it HERE. The video is interactive, and to get the best from it, it asks you to login with your Facebook account and to give your phone number. If you are like me you usually wouldn't, but don't get the fear! It's much more effective if you do and BeLonG To won't sell your details to Google! Honest. And you can opt out out again straight afterwards.

"My names Dylan Walsh, & I am a singer/song writer & I will make my stamp on the world. You wait."

I was doodling around the internet as I do, and one link led to another and I found myself on YouTube watching the video to Christina Perri's "Jar Of Hearts". However, what immediately caught my eye was this comment below the clip:

I know only one person will read this comment, why not try i guess?

    Hi, my names Dylan Walsh

I'm a 16 year old singer song writer from Ireland,

I just uploaded a 'jar of hearts cover' with a guitar and ukuele. :)

I feel youtube is my only way to get anywhere in this country,

    because its so small.

I only have a few subscribers,

so i would be SO greatful if yous could go on to my channel subscribe and watch my video, id love to hear what yous think. Thanks Dylan ox

Well, how could I resist such a heartfelt youthful plea, so I went to his channel where he's been busy uploading lots of clips of him singing covers. And I followed the links to his Facebook  fan page and Twitter where his ambition is also on display:

"Just a normal guy, with a dream to make my mark on this world. You wait and see, my dreams will come true. Every great dream begins with a dreamer."

Here's the aforementioned cover of Jar Of Hearts by Dylan and his mates Barry and Aidan. Dylan is only 16 years old, so I'm saying nothing more than I wouldn't be surprised if one day he discovers an... affinity... for our tribe.

    Michael Barron on David Norris

Michael Barron, the co-founder and Chief Executive of BeLonGTo Youth Services, is the Grand Marshal of this year's Dublin Pride Parade, and he has written a piece for The Journal defending David Norris from the smear campaign against him, because he knows what it feels like. Read it HERE.

"The reason for telling you all this is because the attacks we endured share a lot in common with what has been said about Senator Norris. The message is - children and young people are not safe around gay people. This is the oldest trick in the homophobe's handbook."

    Hysterical, ignorant bigotry Vs truth

Bizarre homophobe Melanie Phillips wrote this gross anti-gay distortion of the truth in the Daily Mail last weekend. It's enough to make your blood boil, which is good for the constitution sometimes I know, but I didn't link to it earlier in the week because sometimes I just can't work up the energy for a bit of righteous anger.

However I'm linking to it now because Johann Hari in the (London) Independent has written an elegant riposte that exposes Phillips' willful ignorance and puts her hysterical claims in their rightful place.

(Though knowing Melanie Phillips and her ilk, let's not be surprised if her column next week is a whinging tract about how she only spoke her mind and now all the nasty gays are ganging up on her)

So read the Daily Mail column first, get the blood hot and flowing, then take a deep breath and read the Independent piece and allow your heart rate return to normal. It'll count as a visit to the gym, so then you can lie around and eat chocolate for the rest of the day - unless you already have plans to go out and indoctrinate kids into the homosexual lifestyle.

Confident, articulate, teenage high school student comes out to her whole school

This young woman at a Californian school stands up at assembly and comes out to the entire student body. She mentions she was in a production of the musical Rent, and as you might expect from a Californian teenage aspiring actress, it's a little too rehearsed for my taste - more like a dramatic reading than a raw coming-out speech - but is never-the-less brave and eloquent. Good on her.

Young, gay, and homeless in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Times has a sad photo essay and story about homeless gay young people living on the streets of LA.

Screening of 'The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest' for BeLonGTo

There will be a special preview screening of The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest in the Dundrum Town Centre cinema on Tuesday, Nov 23rd, and all proceeds will be going to the LGBT youth organisation BeLonGTo.

As well as a chance to see the movie before the rest of your mates, everyone at the screening will get a goody bag ("goodie" bag?) from Warner Brothers, and someone at the screening wil win a weekend for two at the super swanky, ultra luxurious Ice House Hotel & Spa in Ballina Co. Mayo.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest is the third and final part of Stieg Larsson's worldwide best-selling Millennium Trilogy (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire), which features the bisexual protagonist (and lesbian favourite) Lisbeth.

Under police guard in hospital, Lisbeth Salander (NOOMI RAPACE) is charged with murder and awaits the trial that has the country gripped. Cut off from all communication with the outside world, she must rely on journalist and former lover, Mikael Blomkvist (MICHAEL NYQVIST) to prove her innocence and expose the political cover up that threatens to destroy her freedom. In his way stands a mysterious group who will go to any lengths to keep the shocking truth of their actions a secret.

Tickets are €20, and can be got through BeLonGTo's website HERE.

Please Note: As the film is not yet rated, tickets are available only to those 18 and over. (though will they really check your ID at the cinema?)
