I'm not sure it'd be any quicker, but it's certainly more elegant.

The Antikythera Mechanism is an ancient mechanical computer designed to calculate astronomical positions, discovered 1901 by sponge divers in the wreck of the ancient Greek ship the Antikythera, on the sea bed near Crete. However, its complexity and significance were not understood until decades later. It is now thought to have been built about 150-100 BCE. It is astoundingly complex and a boggling feat of engineering considering when it was made, and it predicts the positions of the sun, moon, other planets, and celestial events like eclipses with amazing accuracy- though this was not even begun to be understood till the 1950's.
Over the ensuing years many detailed studies of the device have shed more light on it's purpose and how it was built, and eventually "virtual models" were made.
And now, a fully functioning model has been built using Lego.

In 1961, a computer sang for the first time.
And I suspect that Stanley Kubrick was aware of that bit of trivia, and is why the dying homocidal computer HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey sings the same song....

In less than a year, the world will run out of internet addresses and could lead to broken applications and more expensive net connections. When the protocol for IP addresses was developed 30 years ago, computers were the size of a room, mobile phones hadn't been invented, and the idea that TV's, cars and even fridges would want IP addresses was preposterous.
