Eleanor Charlotte Butler and Sarah Ponsonby were two Anglo-Irish ladies from wealthy Kilkenny families whose intense relationship scandalised Ireland in the late 1700's. However the feisty ladies knew what they wanted and were determined to live their lives as they chose, together. In order to live as they pleased they moved to a small town in Wales and lived together as a devoted and loving couple for over fifty years and eventually the "Ladies of Llangollen" became celebrated and famous eccentrics and gardeners.
Their story is fascinating and charming and revelatory and is the subject of a lovely RTE radio documentary which you can hear HERE.

Did you catch Adele on Graham Norton last night? She's so lovely and super fun. Well, if you missed it, some rabid fan already has it up on YouTube.

A) A bunch of fun and cute Boston gays embrace their inner pop-tarts and make their own sexy and fun video for awesome new Britney Spears track
B) A bunch of generic gym-bunnies live out their straight-acting fantasies, while also (irony alert!) dancing and lip-syncing "for their lives" to another sound-a-like Britney track.
Both of these views are equally valid so lets not get in to an argument about it. Just pick one and move on.

Apparently (according to the Daily Mail anyway) Tara was concerned about her cocaine ravaged nose ruining her look at the big wedding, but she needn't have worried because dressed like a blue cockatoo nobody's paying any attention to her nose. The hat is Phillip Treacy (the poor - or rather rich - bugger must have been working flat out 'cos every second head was topped with a Treacy) but I've no idea who made the dress. Love it or hate it, it's hard to ignore. I'm going with lovin' it.

... 'cos I only have eyes for Prince Carl Phillip of Sweden. He's mad about me too. He likes his women huge and common.

Carl Phillip, as the only son of the King and Queen, was next in line to the throne when he was born in 1979, however on Jan 1st 1980 a new law of succession came in to effect which made the first born the heir regardless of gender, so his elder sister became the new heir to the throne. Probably just as well 'cos you know me - I like the quiet life.
Interestingly, his great grandfather King Gustav V who was king from 1907 to 1950 is widely believed to have been gay, and there was a scandal when he fell in love with his tennis partner.
"In the 1940s King Gustav V, who had reigned since 1907, fell in love with his tennis partner, a businessman called Haiby. The reaction was ruthless and brutal. Haiby was lured into exile, jailed abroad, and the whole story suppressed for 20 years. By the time it emerged, the scandal was more about the cover-up than the fact of the dead king's proclivities. Abusing power, and concealing the traces afterwards, were acts of bad citizenship, therefore immoral, therefore scandalous. What went on in private life was a different matter." (via the London Independent)

... and it's called The Bitter Tears Of Panti Bliss and will be drunk by the players during the Irish International GLTA (Gay & Lesbian Tennis Association) Tournament which is taking place this weekend.
No seriously. We're the water sponsor. Look, I can prove it.

Organised by Out4Tennis, the tournament takes place over the long weekend, from Saturday April 30th, to Monday May 2nd. The tournament is sanctioned by the Gay & Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA), with players from all around Europe, the US and, of course, Ireland. In addition, there is a social programme every evening, and everyone is welcome.
The main tennis venue is Mount Pleasant LTC, located a short distance from Ranelagh LUAS stop. In addition, matches will be played in other tennis clubs in the Dublin 4 & Dublin 6 areas.
There is no charge for spectators and everyone is welcome to participate in the social events over the weekend. Info HERE.
