People sometimes say that God has the best architects and artists, usually when looking at some amazing church or the Sistine Chapel ceiling or something. But actually, God never had great artists. Money and power did. It wasn't the love of God that painted great Renaissance masterpieces it was love of Medici cash. And that's never more clear than now-a-days when God has nothing but the most dreadful artists. Every modern church is filled with the most banal shite - dreary mosaics, painfully dull tapestries, crap stained glass windows - and if YouTube has taught me anything it's that Christians are horrible musicians and even worse poets. Though I guess the Devil always got the good musicians, didn't he? gays \| nuts \| religion poisons everything Blog Posted By Derek 10 Mar 2013 02:23 Its a little unfair to religion to say that it is only tangentially responsible for past works of art (I.e. putting up the cash). If you read what some o these artists and composers actually have to say about their religion it's pretty clear that quite a few of them are not a la carte religious who would have written pretty much the same thing about their mistress if they could. Of course the modern approach seems to be to claim religion is solely responsible for certain negative things but claim the good things it's associated with (charity, art, etc.) would have happened anyway.
